The largest automated smart cold chain logistics centre in Hong Kong

The large-scale smart cold chain logistics project led by KaiLong Group and Reitar Logtech Group has commenced construction. To celebrate this important milestone, the two parties recently held a groundbreaking ceremony, marking the official start of the project. After more than 40 years since its inauguration, the industrial building, located at 26 Wing Kei Road in Kwai Chung will be transformed into a state-of-the-art automated cold chain logistics centre. With expected completion date of fall 2024, the whole building will become the largest automated cold chain warehouse centre in Hong Kong, with a total floor area of over 200,000 square feet.

The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Mr. Ivan Ho, Chief Executive Officer (Hong Kong, China) of KaiLong Group, and Mr. John Chan, Chairman and Managing Director of Reitar Logtech Group. Representatives from Cogen Advisory Limited, a subsidiary of Reitar Logtech Group, Kamui Construction & Engineering Group, the main contractor, Reithub Consulting Limited, and SmartMore, the IT architect of smart logistics solutions, also attended the ceremony to witness the occasion. 

The conversion project of large-scale automated cold chain logistics centre will utilize innovative technologies such as efficient refrigeration and freezing equipment, intelligent real-time monitoring, control and adjustment systems, to enable fully automated operations, thereby improving the efficiency and sustainability of logistics warehousing.

Mr. Ivan Ho, Chief Executive Officer (Hong Kong, China) of KaiLong Group, said: “As a real estate private equity fund focusing on Greater China, KaiLong Group
currently holds 7 real estate projects in Hong Kong, and this project is the Group’s fourth industrial project in Hong Kong. In the future, KaiLong will focus on investing in industrial conversion and redevelopment projects, including logistics warehouses, cold chain warehouse, and data centre. This project is a major investment for KaiLong Group in the field of smart logistics warehousing and an important milestone. We believe that through our cooperation with Reitar Logtech Group, the two companies can achieve more breakthroughs and innovations in the field of smart logistics.”

Mr. John Chan, Chairman and Managing Director of Reitar Logtech Group, said: “This conversion project for an automated and intelligent cold chain logistics centre marks the first collaboration between KaiLong Group and Reitar Logtech Group in the field of smart logistics, and represents an important step forward for both parties’ investment and development in this area. He pointed out that this project is in a prime location in the center of Kwai Chung, in a whole industrial building that is ideal for cold chain food logistics. Furthermore, due to the sharp increase in demand for frozen food caused by the pandemic, but insufficient frozen equipment in Hong Kong, the Group expects to develop multiple large-scale automated cold chain logistics centre in Hong Kong in the next 2-3 years to meet market demand. The Group will continue to maintain a close working relationship with KaiLong Group and hopes to build a cold chain asset network
in Hong Kong in the future.”

The collaboration will strongly promote the development of the industry and create new opportunities. At the same time, it also reflects the joint efforts of KaiLong Group and Reitar Logtech Group to improve the efficiency and sustainability of logistics operations.
